Extrajudicial killing

An extrajudicial killing is the killing of a person by governmental authorities or individuals without the sanction of any judicial proceeding or legal process. Extrajudicial punishments are mostly seen by humanity to be unethical, since they bypass the due process of the legal jurisdiction in which they occur.
What is the purpose of extrajudicial killing?

uSection 3(a) of the United States Torture Victim Protection Act contains a definition of extrajudicial killing: a deliberate killing not authorized by a previous judgment pronounced by a regular constituted court affording all the judicial guarantees which are recognized as indispensable by civilized peoples.
SUPPORT
The victims’ families know that extrajudicial killing was committed in the process of apprehending their loved ones, but they must also know that proving such is difficult or almost impossible without witnesses. Of course it is understandable that potential witnesses to EJKs may be intimidated, but they should be brave to come out in the open to support the lawyers in the name of justice.
The alliance should be ready because this is a big and long fight against policemen and politicians in power.

TAKE NOTE
uStop extrajudicial executions in the Philippines
uRight now, alleged drug offenders in the Philippines are being killed unlawfully.
uSince President Duterte came to power, there have been over 7000 state-sponsored killings in his anti-drug campaign. There have also been many cases where alleged drug users have been killed in police custody or in police operations. In some cases, police officers have even colluded with paid killers and killed for financial incentives.
uThe victims of these efforts have mainly been poor, young men. The ‘war on drugs’, in effect, is a war on the poor. In some cases, families of killed victims have had to suffer through police theft and planting of evidence.
uMeanwhile, the President has defended his anti-drugs campaign and extended it until 2022. And not a single police officer has been prosecuted or dismissed from duty in relation to killings during police drug operations.
Investigations are either non-existent or weak, making any effort made by the families of victims to bring their case to court futile. Most families fear reprisal, and so do not come forward to seek justice.
